Why is My Copier Jamming? Try these steps below
You could have a problem with the paper size settings. Check the tray to make sure the paper inside the tray is exactly what is displayed on the copier’s operation panel for that particular tray. Example, if letter size paper 8 1/2×11 is inside of tray 1. then the copier should display letter for tray one, if not. this will cause the copier to jam every time.
If the copier is jamming from every tray, there is a possible blockage that could be preventing all trays from feeding paper. If so, check the paper path where the paper is stopping. There may be a foreign object or torn piece of paper that can be easily removed.
If the copier only jams from 1 tray and not any other trays, then the problem is within that particular tray. Look for torn pieces of paper. Whether or not the side quides are on the paper properly, if the paper size is set correctly, or if the cassette tray is cracked or damaged. This may be the cause of jams from that tray.
If the document feeder jams every time when long an original is fed through, check for foreign objects such as torn paper, paperclips, or staples in the paper path. Most of the time, these objects are in the feeder stopping the paper from passing through.
What Causes Poor Print Quality on Copiers?
If there is a perfect line or multiple lines on your prints, faxes, or scans when using the document feeder, try using the glass next. If the fax, scan, or printout comes out clean, the problem is a dirty glass. Try cleaning the glass just to the left of the big glass under your document feeder. If this glass is dirty, that could be the source of the lines..
If there are lines, spots, or smudges on your printouts only when printing or copying, there is a chance that you have a bad ink cartridge. If this is on a color printer, try replacing the ink cartridge for that particular color first. This may be the source of lines, smudges, or spots on the printouts.
Spots or marks that are on the same place every time on multiple print outs coud most likely be a dirty glass. Clean the big glass under the document feeder and copy the original again to see if the sports or marks went away.
Feel to make sure there is toner still left in the toner bottles. If there is no toner and the bottle feels very empty, replace the toner with a new one. The toner could be low enough to not trigger the machine to add toner. But, if there is some toner left, even if it is a little bit, do not replace the bottle with a new one. Place the old one back in the machine and request for service.
